After playing around in Illustrator on the Portfolio front cover logo I took this new passion for creating logos for myself and decided to improve my existing web and main logo with something a little more eye-catching.
The idea was a stopwatch type logo, and inside I’d have myself as the brains behind making it tick.

Ride Where? is a phone app concept of mine and a friend’s which we were planning on developing. The app allows bmx users to navigate to spots and skateparks using the GPS within the app. Users have the capability of capturing their found spots and recording the location into the app allowing other users to locate and enjoy the spot or skatepark.

The idea came about when we realised as bmxers ourselves that every time we pursued to ride our bikes we’d always end up asking one another and I quote, ‘where do you want to ride?’. We began looking into existing apps relating to the idea, there were a few that were almost too similar. Pin It for example, an app which allows you to place points on a map to record and promote locations you’ve heard about or been to. It was main stream apps like this which pushed us to the conclusion of ending the project.

We thought as bmxers ourselves we’d have the upper hand in already knowing exactly what the target market would need. There isn’t any specific apps out there which target extreme sports locations. Although we did come across a Transworld app which looked to be a concept like ours which had fallen through.

Even though the project came to an end, as a graphic designer I couldn’t help but create a few visuals like you see in the above designs to show evidence of the concept.

Colin Creatives Web Intro: I thought a quick description of my web intro was needed to discuss how I made it and what I hoped it would bring to my website.

I created the entire animation in After Effects. The spline graphics you see flowing throughout the animation, I actually found a tutorial on how to do it in Cinema 4D and built upon that to achieve my outcomes. The rest of the graphics such as the text, were simply put together using shapes and fonts in After Effects. The sound effects were initially played with a dub-step track, but I decided to remove that track as dupstep doesn’t always appeal to everyone. In the end I left the sound effects which I had taken from a selection of tracks and slowed down to act as though the sound is reacting to the movement in the animation.

3DS Max Tutorial: struggled to find a solution how a bitmap and material can be combined in 3DS Max back in the day, and recently couldn’t find a tutorial on it, so I decided to take it into my own hands and produce a simple tutorial on how to go about achieving this.

I enjoyed making the tutorial and will probably continue to make them if and when I find something that I feel needs to simplified to help people with 3DS Max.
